Chronic Pain Treatment

What is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is often called “general somatic pain” – this means pain from the outer body. You have experienced this kind of pain your entire life, and your brain can easily understand it. Somatic pain often occurs when you fall or are hit by a person or object, and it generally fades in a few minutes, hours or days.

However, some people experience somatic pain that does not dissipate, such as fibromyalgia or chronic back pain.

Often this kind of pain is treated using a variety of medications:

• Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)

  • Ibuprofen (Motrin)
  • Naproxen (Naprosyn)
  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol)

• Opioids (Morphine)
